# How to Preview Your Route in Savvy Navvy

Previewing your route lets you see a detailed passage plan before heading out, so you can check weather, tide, boat speed, wind angles, and course changes in advance. It’s one of the best ways to understand why your route is doing what it’s doing — especially if conditions shift along the way.

### How to Preview Your Route

1. Plot your route in the **Routes** tab.
2. Open the **route info panel**
3. Tap **Preview**

###### What You’ll See in Route Preview

* Boat speed (SOG) and wind speed/direction along each leg
* A breakdown of each waypoint, leg duration, and distance
* Course to Steer (CTS) and Course Over Ground (COG) for each leg
* Tide strength and direction, with notes when it changes
* Color-coded route lines to show how your boat is expected to travel

###### Route Line Color Key

* **Blue** = Sailing (under sail power only)
* **Yellow** = Motoring (required when sailing due to low wind or adverse tide)
* **Red dotted** = Caution advised (e.g., shallow water based on your draft)

###### What Do CTS, COG, and SOG Mean?

* CTS (Course to Steer): The heading you should maintain, corrected for tide and wind
* COG (Course Over Ground): The actual direction your boat is moving across the ground
* SOG (Speed Over Ground): Your true speed over the ground, factoring in tide and wind


### How Previews Differ by Vessel Type

###### Sailboat previews include:

* Anticipated Speed Over Ground (SOG) based on wind, tide, and your boat’s polars or cruising speed
* Wind angles and whether you need to luff up or bear away
* Course to Steer (CTS) adjustments factoring in tidal flow
* Reasoning for course changes (e.g., “wind drops” or “tide changes from foul to cross”)

###### Motorboat previews include:

* Assume your set cruising speed
* Show how wind and tide affect your ETA for each leg
* Highlight any required course adjustments due to external conditions
