# How to View Tidal Heights & Streams

Savvy Navvy makes it easy to check local tidal heights and tidal streams so you can plan your trip with confidence. You can view tidal data in two ways — through the Tides tab in the bottom bar, or by using the Tidal Streams chart detail layer.

You can view tidal data in Savvy Navvy in **two different ways**, each offering unique insights for trip planning:

* **Tides Tab** – Best for precise tidal heights and exact high/low water times.
* **Tidal Streams Layer** – Best for visualising wider tidal flow patterns across your route.

💡 *Tip:* Combining both methods gives you the most complete picture of tidal conditions, helping you plan safer and more efficient passages.


###### Method 1 – Using the Tides Tab

1. **Open the Tides Tab**
Tap Tides in the bottom bar.
* A marker will appear on the chart showing the current tidal direction and speed.
* A purple diamond tidal station marker will also appear. This shows the station used for the tidal heights forecast, along with its name and location.

2. **View the Tidal Heights Graph**
* The graph displays future tidal conditions for several days ahead (duration depends on your plan).
* Scroll the timeline to see tides at different times.

3. **Reading the Graph**
Dotted lines and timestamps mark high and low water.
* The tide height can be read directly from the graph.
* The observed time is shown at the top of the graph with a dark blue line and updates as you scroll.
* The current time is marked by a light blue line.
* The background changes to a darker shade at night to show day/night cycles.


###### Method 2 – Using the Tidal Streams Chart Detail Layer

1. **Open the Layers Menu**
Tap the layers icon (stacked diamond shapes) on the right-hand side of the chart.

2. **Enable Tidal Streams**
Toggle on Tidal Streams to view a dynamic tidal flow atlas.
* Arrows show flow direction, with size and boldness representing strength.
* The data updates according to the time you select in the forecast timeline.

3. **Explore Future Conditions**
Scroll the forecast timeline to see how tidal streams change hour by hour.
