How to Use Manual Routing
Manual Routing gives you complete control over the path your vessel takes. By placing waypoints directly on the chart, you can create a custom route that follows your preferred course, passes through specific locations, or avoids areas based on your local knowledge. While you’re in control of every waypoint, Savvy Navvy will still check your route for potential safety concerns and alert you if any part of the route may be unsafe.
Manual Routes vs Smart Routes
Savvy Navvy offers two ways to plan your journey:
- Smart Routes automatically calculate the safest and most efficient route by taking into account your boat settings, wind, tides, weather, chart data, and local regulations.
- Manual Routes give you complete control by allowing you to place each waypoint yourself. This is useful when you want to follow a specific course, pass through chosen locations, or create a route that matches your local knowledge and preferences.
Creating a Manual Route
- Tap anywhere on the chart to set your starting position. The app will prompt you with Tap on the chart to set your start position.

- A start pin (A) will appear on the map. Tap another location on the chart to add your next waypoint (B). A line will be drawn between the two points.

- Continue tapping on the chart to add as many waypoints as you need to complete your route. The Total Distance and the distance for each leg of the journey will update automatically at the bottom of the screen.

- To remove the most recently added waypoint, tap the Delete waypoint button. To remove any other waypoint, tap it and then the Delete waypoint button.

- To remove all waypoints and start over from the beginning, tap the Clear button.
Tip
Pinch to zoom in or out on the chart for more precise waypoint placement, especially near harbors or complex waterways.
Route Safety Checks
Even though you're creating the route manually, Savvy Navvy will still check your route for potential hazards and navigation concerns.

If part of your route is unsafe, you'll see a warning or error message explaining the issue. Common reasons include:
- Crossing land
- Entering shallow water based on your boat settings
- Passing through restricted or regulated areas
- Routing through known navigation hazards
- Other charted safety concerns
If you receive a warning, review your waypoints and adjust the route until the issue is resolved. You can also tap Avoid danger to calculate a Smart Route.
