How to Use Weather Forecasting Tools in Savvy Navvy

Some chart overlays are only included in our premium plans. Learn more about Savvy Plan Pricing here.

Savvy Navvy offers powerful, high-resolution weather forecasting tools to help you plan safe and efficient trips. You can view forecasts in two main ways: via the Weather tab or through the Weather chart detail layer. Both give you access to accurate wind, temperature, and precipitation data — so you can make confident decisions before and during your voyage.

Two Ways to View Forecasted Weather

By combining these two tools, you’ll always have a clear understanding of both local conditions and the wider weather trends in your boating area.

  • Weather Tab – Best for detailed, location-specific planning.
  • Weather Chart Detail – Best for getting a big-picture view of wind patterns and how they’re expected to change.

1. Weather Tab – Explore Detailed Forecasts for Any Location

The Weather tab lets you view forecast conditions for any point on the chart.

How it works:

  1. Tap the Weather tab at the bottom of your screen.
  2. A weather marker will appear on the chart at your selected location.
  3. To check conditions for another spot, drag and zoom the chart until the marker is over your desired location.

What you’ll see:

  • Wind speed & gusts – Average wind speed and gust strength, shown alongside wind direction arrows.
  • Weathergram – A visual timeline showing forecast wind, gusts, weather icons, temperature, and rainfall.
  • Forecast length – Varies by plan. Free users get shorter-term forecasts, while premium plans unlock extended forecasts up to 14 days.
  • Day/night shading – Nighttime hours are shaded darker for easy visibility.
  • Scrollable timeline – Swipe forward to see how weather changes over time.

💡 Tip: This view is perfect for comparing weather conditions at potential anchorages, marinas, or open-water waypoints before you decide on your route.

2. Weather Chart Detail – See Real-Time Wind Animations

If you want a quick, visual overview of current wind conditions across your chart area, use the Weather chart detail.

How to enable it:

  1. Tap the Layers icon (diamond shape) on the right-hand side of the screen.
  2. Toggle Wind under “Chart Details” to turn the animated wind overlay on or off.

Features:

  • Animated arrows – Show wind direction and speed at a glance.
  • Colour coding – Quickly identify conditions using our wind speed colour scale:

•. Blue – Light winds

•. Green – Ideal boating conditions

•. Yellow/Orange – Uncomfortable conditions

•. Red – Dangerous conditions

•. Purple – Extreme conditions

  • Forecast scrolling – Use the timeline to move forward in time and see how conditions will change.
  • Energy saving – The animation can be demanding on your battery, so it’s best to turn it off when not in use.
