Plotting a Smart & Safe Route

Good news! Smart routing is available on all Savvy Navvy plans. Want to explore more features? Learn more about Savvy Plan Pricing here.

Just a few taps and you're planning your next adventure!

Savvy Navvy’s Smart Routing creates routes that automatically account for wind, weather, tides, your boat’s specifications, and local regulations. This ensures your passage plan is safe, efficient, and tailored to your vessel.

1 - Open the Routes tab

Make sure you're in the Routes tab by tapping it in the bottom bar.

2 - Choose Your Starting Point

You can set your start location in several ways:

  • Drop a pin directly on the chart by tapping on the chart
  • Search for a marina, anchorage, landmark, or location name
  • Enter latitude and longitude coordinates
  • Tap your current location if you are starting from where you are now

Once chosen, this will be waypoint A of your route.

3 - Add Your Destination and Any Waypoints

Tap to add your destination or any intermediate waypoints along your route. A dashed “skeleton” route will appear so you can see your planned course.

4 - Review the skeleton route

As you add waypoints, a preview route (dashed line) appears, helping you see how the route is shaping up. You can move waypoints or add midpoints at any time.

⚠️ This skeleton route doesn't yet take into account wind, weather, tides or your boat settings ⚠️

5 - Tap 'Plot Route'

When you have at least two waypoints set:

  • Tap Plot Route to generate your full passage plan
  • Savvy Navvy will factor in tides, wind, weather, and your vessel settings minute-by-minute for the safest and most accurate route
  • View detailed info for each leg in the bottom panel (just swipe up to expand it).

After You Plot Your Route

Once your Smart Route is generated, we recommend:

  • Preview Your Route – Review the full passage plan and conditions before you set off. Learn more here.
  • Use the Departure Scheduler – Compare different departure times to find the safest and most efficient window. Learn more here.

5 - Start Navigating

When you are physically at waypoint A, tap the START button to begin Active Navigation. This will guide you along your planned route in real time, adjusting and recalculating according to most up-to-date weather forecasts and tidal data.

💡 Tip: Do not tap START unless you are at your first waypoint. Doing so will reset your start point to your current GPS position.
