Where Savvy Navvy Gets Its Tidal Data
Savvy Navvy provides highly accurate tidal height and tidal stream data to help you plan safe and efficient trips. Our tidal information comes from multiple trusted sources:
- World Tides / Copernicus – the European Union’s Earth observation programme, which gathers vast amounts of data from satellites, ground stations, airborne systems, and seaborne measurements. Learn more at copernicus.eu.
- UKHO / Admiralty tidal stations – we’ve recently added over 2,000 tidal stations from the UK Hydrographic Office, significantly enhancing coverage across the UK.
By combining these sources, Savvy Navvy ensures you get up-to-date, reliable tidal predictions and stream information wherever you are. This helps you make better decisions about departure times, routes, and safety on the water.
Tidal Height vs. Tidal Streams – What’s the Difference?
- Tidal Height – the vertical distance between the seabed and the water surface, which changes throughout the day due to the rise and fall of the tide. This is essential for knowing if you have enough depth to navigate or enter a marina.
- Tidal Streams – the horizontal movement of water caused by tides, often referred to as tidal currents. These can help push you along or slow you down, depending on your direction of travel.
Both are critical for safe passage planning, and Savvy Navvy brings them together in one place for your convenience.
