Where Savvy Navvy Gets Its Weather Forecast Data
At Savvy Navvy, accurate weather forecasting is critical for safe and confident navigation. That’s why we partner with Meteomatics — one of the world’s most trusted providers of high-resolution, global weather data.
We don’t simply show you a list of raw weather models and expect you to interpret them. Instead, we use Meteomatics’ intelligent blending technology to give you the best possible forecast for your location and time without the guesswork.
Two Forecast Options
Savvy Navvy uses different forecast models depending on your plan:
1. GFS (Global Forecast System)
GFS data gives you a reliable short-term forecast with broad global coverage, ideal for quick checks and day sailing. Available on the Free Plan
- Source: NOAA’s Global Forecast System
- Resolution: ~25 km
- Forecast length: 36 hours
- Coverage: Global
2. ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) + Meteomatics Mix
Ensures the most relevant and accurate forecast without overloading your device with unnecessary ultra-high-resolution data where it’s not needed. Available on Premium Plans.
- Resolution:
•. Nearshore: ~0.8 km
•. Offshore: ~6 km
- Forecast length: Up to 14 days
- Data sources: ECMWF + more than 25 other global, regional, and local weather models.
- Enhanced accuracy: Calibrated with station data.
The Meteomatics Mix intelligently selects the best model for each location and time, blending:
- High-resolution ECMWF data
- Local terrain models (90m resolution for land, optimised for coastal areas at sea)
- Land use data
- Astronomical data (sun position, tides, etc.)
Why We Use the Meteomatics Mix
Most weather apps give you multiple raw models and leave the interpretation to you. At Savvy Navvy, we:
- Blend multiple sources for you
- Deliver the best forecast for your route automatically
- Avoid data overload so your app stays fast and efficient
- Present forecasts in a sailor-friendly format
