Chart Types: Default, Night Mode, Satellite, and Relief Shading

Some chart types are only available on certain plans. Learn more about Savvy Navvy Plan Pricing here.

Savvy Navvy offers several chart type options so you can choose the view that works best for your navigation needs and lighting conditions. You can switch chart types anytime from within the app.

Where to Find Chart Types

  1. Open the Savvy Navvy app.
  2. Look for the diamond icon on the right-hand side of the screen.
  3. Tap it to open the Chart Overlays menu.
  4. Tap on the Chart Type cards to swap between them.

Chart Types

You can choose one chart type at a time, including:

Default

Best for general navigation when you need a clear, traditional marine chart view. Our standard Savvy Chart™ includes:

  • Full marine navigation symbols
  • Depth contours and soundings
  • Buoys, beacons, and markers
  • Ports, marinas, and anchorage icons

Night Mode

Includes all relevant chart data from the default charts overlayed on chart colouring ideal for night time or dim light conditions.

  • A darker, low-glare colour scheme
  • Preserves night vision
  • Reduces eye strain in low-light or overnight passages

Satellite Mode

Displays high-resolution satellite imagery of coastlines and surrounding land areas, with all default chart data overlaid for clear navigation and visual reference when approaching shore.

  • High-resolution satellite imagery of coastlines and surrounding land
  • Great for visual recognition of harbours, beaches, and terrain
  • Can help spot landmarks before arrival

Relief Shading

Highlights seabed contours and underwater terrain with shaded 3D-style bathymetry, overlaid with standard chart data for enhanced depth perception and hazard awareness (available in UK or Australia waters only).

  • Uses shaded 3D-style bathymetry to reveal seabed contours and underwater terrain
  • Helps identify ridges, shelves, channels, and other underwater features

💡 Tip: You can layer on additional information like wind, tidal streams, and AIS by turning on Chart Details from the same Chart Overlays menu.
