How Savvy Navvy Adjusts and Recalculates Routes in Real Time
Savvy Navvy’s smart routing technology doesn’t just give you a static passage plan — it continuously adapts to changing conditions so you can sail with confidence from departure to arrival.
How Smart Routing Works
When you plot a route in Savvy Navvy, our algorithm factors in:
- Tidal streams and heights – Calculated dynamically, hour by hour, for the full duration of your trip.
- Wind and weather forecasts – Updated conditions influence your route throughout the passage, not just at the start.
- Your vessel’s specifications – Including draft, bridge clearance, waterline length (for speed), cruising speed or polar diagrams. These details ensure your route is safe, efficient, and tailored to your boat.
- Local Regulations — Route safely around fish farms, restricted areas and exactly as you should across shipping lanes.
Real-Time Recalculation
Once you start your journey, Savvy Navvy continuously monitors your GPS position, speed, and course over ground. If you get ahead of or behind schedule, the app automatically recalculates your route based on the latest conditions:
- Wind shifts
- Weather changes
- Tidal heights and currents
This means your passage plan stays accurate — even if nature has other ideas.
Quick Navigation Tools
While underway, you can also:
- View your live position with GPS tracking
- Instantly check your Course Over Ground (COG) and Speed Over Ground (SOG)
- Use quick distance rings around your boat to estimate distances to nearby features
Works Online or Offline
Route recalculation works whether you’re connected to the internet or sailing off the grid.
If you’ve downloaded offline chart packs, the app has all the chart data, weather forecasts, and tidal atlas information it needs to keep your route up to date without Wi-Fi or mobile data.
