Using Savvy Navvy with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Take your Savvy Navvy navigation from your phone to your helm display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Whether you’re planning a trip at home or heading out on the water, you can view your charts, routes and navigation information on any compatible CarPlay or Android Auto display.
What is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto let you use compatible apps from your phone on a supported display.
With Savvy Navvy, that means you can access your navigation on your helm display without needing a separate chartplotter interface. Simply connect your compatible device and continue using the routes and places you’ve already planned in the app.
Savvy Navvy works with any compatible Apple CarPlay or Android Auto display.
What you’ll see on your display

Once connected, you can access many of the features you’re already familiar with in the Savvy Navvy app, including:
- Savvy Charts™ in day and night mode
- Satellite chart view
- 2D and 3D chart views
- Search for marinas, harbours, anchorages and other places
- Saved markers and Home Ports
- Smart route planning
- Navigation mode with:
- ETA
- Remaining time
- Remaining distance
- Next maneuvre
- Your current position
- AIS vessel display (can be turned on or off)
- Live location sharing, showing your connected boating friends on the chart
If you plan a route on your phone before leaving home, it’ll automatically be available when you connect to CarPlay or Android Auto.
Likewise, routes created on your helm display will also appear in your Savvy Navvy app.
Getting started
You’ll need:
- A Premium or Elite subscription
- The latest version of the Savvy Navvy app installed on your phone
- A compatible Apple CarPlay or Android Auto display
- A wired or wireless connection, depending on your device and display
- Download charts, tides and weather for offline use if you anticipate losing data connection when on the water
Once connected:
- Open Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
- Select Savvy Navvy.
- Your saved routes, markers and navigation information will be ready to use.
Using offline charts
Offline charts work exactly the same as they do in the Savvy Navvy app. Learn more about offline charts in the How to Download Offline Charts article.
If you’ve already downloaded charts to your device, they’ll also be available when using CarPlay or Android Auto, making them ideal for areas with limited or no mobile coverage.
Compatible devices
Savvy Navvy supports:
- Apple CarPlay
- Android Auto
- iPhone and Android phones
- Compatible tablets*
*Tablets must have built-in GPS to provide your location.
Whether your connection is wired or wireless depends on your device and your display.
Safety information
Savvy Navvy is designed to assist with voyage planning and navigation, but you should always maintain a proper lookout and navigate responsibly.
Always operate your vessel safely and follow local regulations. Do not rely solely on any electronic navigation system.
