Getting Started: Navigating the Savvy Navvy Interface

When you open Savvy Navvy, the first thing you’ll see is the main chart screen — the heart of your navigation experience. This screen gives you an interactive marine chart where you can plan routes, check weather and tides, and access key tools for safe and efficient boating.

Whether you’re new to Savvy Navvy or just need a quick refresher, here’s how to explore and use the interface like a pro.

Exploring the Chart

The chart works much like other mapping apps, but with powerful marine-specific features:

  • Pinch to Zoom – Use two fingers to zoom in for detailed views of harbours, buoys, and depth contours, or zoom out for a wider overview.
  • Drag to Pan – Place a finger on the screen and drag to move around the chart.
  • Tap for Details – Select marinas, anchorages, buoys, or markers to view extra information like facilities, coordinates, or light sequences.
  • 3D & North Lock Options – Use the control buttons on the right side to toggle between different perspectives and lock north orientation.

The Bottom Bar

The bottom bar is your quick-access command center for the most essential boating information and planning tools. No matter where you are on the chart, these four tabs keep critical data just one tap away:

  • Weather – View detailed forecasts, including wind speed/direction, gusts, and temperature.
  • Tides – Access tidal height and stream data for your selected location, including future tide times.
  • Routes – Plot new smart routes, preview your planned route or use the Departure Scheduler to see how different start times affect your trip.
  • Logbook – Review and manage your saved routes, recorded tracks from past trips and saved markers.

The Right-Side Buttons

These give quick access to chart tools and overlays:

  • Search (Magnifying Glass) – Find marinas, anchorages, buoys, landmarks, or enter lat/lon coordinates.
  • 3D View – Switch to a tilted, perspective view of the chart.
  • Lock North Orientation (Compass Icon) – Keep north fixed at the top or allow the chart to rotate with your heading.
  • Chart Style & Overlays (Layer Icon) – Switch chart types (default, night mode, satellite) and toggle overlays like wind, weather, tidal streams, and AIS vessel tracking.
  • Measure Tool (Ruler Icon) – Measure distance and bearing between points on the chart.

Main Menu Access

From the main chart, tap the three-bar Menu icon (☰) in the top left to access:

  • Account & Membership – Manage your subscription, plan, and account details.
  • Boat Settings – Update your vessel type, draft, polar settings, and units of measurement.
  • Offline Charts – Download chart areas for use without an internet connection.
  • Anchor Alarm – Set an alarm to alert you if your boat drifts.
  • Help & Chat – Contact support or browse the knowledge base.
  • Legal & Privacy Info – View privacy policy, terms of service, and third-party notices.
